Cigarettes contain over 4,000 chemicals, 51 of them are known to be carcinogenic (cause cancer). Chemicals in cigarettes and cigarette smoke are known to cause not only cancer but also other serious health problems. Many of the chemicals are poisonous. If a person ate one pack of cigarettes, he/she would die. We all know the danger of smoking. Nowadays, we see cigarettes in every home worldwide.

Some tips for quitting smoking:

1- Know what you are up against: The first step to kicking any addiction is admitting that it is an addiction. Most smokers refuse to acknowledge the hold that smoking has on their lives and refuse to recognize the health risks of smoking.

2- Drop Old Habits. One of the best ways to curb the urge to smoke is to avoid activities that you once associated with smoking. For example, if coffee and cigarettes go hand-in-hand for you, then you may need to consider breaking the coffee habit as well, or at least modifying it so that your coffee drinking ritual is different than it was when you were smoking. Consider replacing coffee with a healthier drink, such as green tea. And if you normally smoke right after a meal, you can change your meal-time routine and gradually break the association between finishing a meal and lighting up a cigarette.

3- Develop New Habits. Once you have decided which old habits you need to drop in order to ease your transition to non-smoking, it is a good idea to replace them with new, often healthier habits that will also make it easier to give up cigarettes. When you feel the urge to light up a cigarette, make sure you have something else to reach for instead. Anything that will occupy your mouth for a few minutes will work, whether it's hard candy, an apple, carrot sticks or celery sticks. You can also fight the urge to smoke with activity. Instead of reaching for a cigarette, take a walk around the block for 10 minutes.

4- Try taking deep breaths: that helps the person to get out of habit of smoking. Whenever you feel like smoking take deep breaths and then exhale slowly, try it few times it will help you to quit smoking, it is somewhat related to yoga.

5- Do exercices. Concentration on exercices will help you to get away from the habit of smoking.

6- Reward Yourself. Cigarette smoking is a very expensive habit. A recent study showed that a lifelong, one pack per day, smoking habit has a value of $8.7 million. So, if you take the huge step of quitting smoking, you deserve to be congratulated and rewarded. Do not absorb the cost of cigarettes into your budget. Instead, take the amount you would be spending on cigarettes each day, each week, each month, and set it aside. Odds are you will be amazed to find out exactly how much you have been spending on cigarettes. Set a goal and use the money you would have spent on cigarettes to reward yourself..
